This blog has been a little light on posts recently, so to let you know I'm still alive here's an update. My summer is just zipping by (I'd hardly recovered from my trip to Canada when my camp job started: five weeks of almost back-to-back English camps for kids) but I managed to slow down long enough last night to catch the Asaka Hanabi Taikai, an excellent local fireworks show. It was a solid hour of blasts like the one shown above, and often there was so much going on in the sky that I didn't know where to look
I didn't even bother bringing my camera (the picture above was taken at the same festival two years ago) knowing how hard it is to get a decent shot of fireworks. But luckily plenty of other people took photos and video of the event, and the clip below will give you an idea of how amazing Japanese fireworks are. Watch it, then imagine fifty-seven more minutes.

Hi there.
Welcome back.
That fireworks video is full-on. You know it's summer when...:)
Hope your camps are going well.

Wow… Aren’t the Japanese fireworks the greatest?!
You totally made me homesick…
I've been following your blog for quite some time, though this is the first time commenting.
As someone who was born/grew up in Japan, and has lived in Vancouver for the last 15 years, I find your blog very, very interesting! I have always wondered what it would be like to live in Japan as a Canadian, and I find answers to my question/curiosity every time I visit your blog.
Looking forward to your next post! :-)

It looks like you had a very nice vacation, and sparkles when you got home.

Hi,
New reader liking what I've read so far...bit curious as to what you and your husband do in Tokyo? Also what did you do when you first got to Japan and any advice for somebody considering making that move?

Hi Fb, I teach English part time and my husband is currently unemployed. At least one of those things will have to change very soon! I first came here for a working holiday with no particular plan to stay long term. I just wanted adventure and that's pretty much what I got! The only advice I can give is: research well, then go for it!
